the-last-thought

I am terrible at enjoying the little things…. or I should say I WAS terrible…. I’m getting better. I’m learning to slow down, to take a break from pursuing the dream and just be present in the moment without feeling like I have to be doing…. When I do that, I see a million little things to enjoy.

Here are just a few of those things over the last month or so..

My honey in his office singing off key with all his heart!

Our adult kids getting together and laughing so hard they cry or singing in the back of the car, like they used to when they were little.

when my adult children call and call me mama.

skyeping with my grandaughter.

when the kids text me for advice or better yet when they text me and say that I was right!

girlfriends weekly encouraging one another

my honey buying me my favorite juice… before he goes out of town.

The smell of the rain…. it smells different in Arizona… dusty and earthy.

A blank canvas…. mmm

the one house plant that I haven’t managed to kill.

the warmth of my pup curled up next to me.

I could go on and on…. but I won’t…. Every time we are present and acknowledge the good stuff…. the more we do it…. the easier it is to see the beautiful little moments that make up our journey on this planet. And the more we see these moments, the more grateful we become. Gratitude grows deep with in… We begin to be filled with gratitude… and then we can give it away…. even in the tough times…

Right now, today, write down your little things… stop, be present, look around and find all the little things that you can enjoy…. keep a running list and look at it ALL the time. Watch what happens…. it changes you… at least it changed me…

Have a great Sunday…  be present and know that you are loved!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!

Really enjoyed watching your process of making “Enjoy the Little Things”. Really a lovely piece. I have lovely hankies that were my grandmothers and I was wanting to make a wee curtain for my back door window or my little kitchen window, but like you, I haven’t done that yet 🙂 Thank you for sharing, I am really enjoying your blog and your videos.

    Shawn,
I bought the collage pack for 7/5/15. Two of the pages are the same book page. The page that has In our own back yard” is the one missing.
    thanks,

    Shawn,
I too have tons of vintage Hankies. Thinking I would find a use for the in my art, but like you I just can’t bring myself to cut them up or anything. I’m so glad you did this video. Its so beautiful. Plus now I have a ton of ideas for my Hankies without having to ruin them.
