I have been in the process of redecorating my bedroom and I was looking for something to complete this little vinette on the dresser. Sooooo,  as I started getting ideas, I thought I would use my deco art products and create a step by step of this little cutie.

This was sitting in the garage…. I always pick up things at garage sales or thrift stores that have the makings of cuteness with a little help. This is a metal frame with great detail…. but it needed a little grunge and some silver to fit into my decor.

I didn’t take a pic of the first step (brain fart) but with a rag, I put a layer of metallic lustre silver on first and then with a clean rag I wiped on a layer of Media fluid acrylic Quin Gold let that dry and went over that with Burnt umber.

I then put a layer of deep brown wax.

I needed just a little bit more silver to come through so I added a final coat of Metallic Lustre.

Then I sealed it with a varnish.

Taking an old book page I traced around the glass that was in the frame.

and using a Deco art alphabet stencil, carbon black paint and a makeup sponge I spelled out Joy

Using a charcoal pencil I wrote choose and everyday and then with black pastel aged the sides of the book page and inserted in into the frame and put the backing on.

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
