Kitchen redo underway and Day 4!

I don’t think there’s ever a day that my hands don’t have paint, glue, or stain on them!  I actually prefer it that way!… I love the feeling I get when I look at a blank canvas or a new project, and put the first layer of color on.  The kitchen redo consists of redoing the cupboards and counter tops…and as I started removing the doors, putting the stripper on and scrubbing the old paint off… I had this small feeling like I had bit off more than I could chew… I want all the prep work done, so I can just put on the pretty color!  No chance of that, soo I just keep scrubbin, as I’m scrubbin and it’s messy, I start to pout, I chuckle at myself as I pouted some more… and I thought about all the times I told my boys…” that everything that’s good takes work”,… “struggle builds character”,… “trust me all the work will be worth it”… you know, all those things you say to your kids…or your parents told you…. well blah, blah, blah….that’s what I want to say at this very moment, as more gooopy stuff flies up and lands in my hair.. The thing is…I truly am doin my best to live my words.  The kitchen cupboards are a simple task in light of building a business, building healthy relationships, building a healthy body, parenting, working, etc. etc… and trying to have grace and kindness in the process.   I want to be a person who never stops growing, changing, learning, loving and is continually looking inside to see how I can do all of this.  I fail everyday, but I just keep trying..I make a lot of mistakes, but I’m just gonna keep goin….. because its worth it!   I will keep scrubbin..I will keep writing, I will keep painting, I WILL keep growing and doing the work that will eventually result in the reward…  ……..  Big smile = Shawn

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
