Becoming

I made this piece for a friend who is in transition and I wrote this note on the back of the piece. There is alot of meaning behind this piece so I thought I would share it with you. I also thought that the note could be for all of us… for me, for you….

(I just realized I misspelled your, sigh)

I believe we’re all becoming….. becoming, strong, vulnerable, funny, confident, energized, peaceful….whatever it might be for you. We never stop growing and changing. I know that at every stage of my life so far, whether it be great joy or gut wrenching pain, I have learned new things about myself and I am stronger for it.

My hope for you is that you are becoming… that you are listening to your heart, that you are growing, and you will be grateful for where you are right now! And that you have someone who will walk with you, tell you that they love you and that they are proud of you! I know I am 🙂

Here is what the parts of this piece mean:

1.The leaves and greenery, are for growing, 2. the dictionary and book pages are for wisdom and learning 3. The heart is for listening to our heart, filtering the world thru our heart, and loving ourselves. 4. The butterfly, metamorphasis, flying, soaring in our confidence. 5. The swirls in the corners represent life, life is never a straight line, it’s curvy, twisty and very tricky.

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 30 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.
