Hope; The feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best:

I talk about hope all the time…. the definition of hope is to have the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that the events will turn out for the best.

When one of my son’s turned 16 he got a car that was 10yrs+ old with the tint peeling.  It was what we could afford, and my son was excited about having a car.  I was having a conversation with him one afternoon and he talked about wanting a bmw convertible. I about choked on my drink.  My boys have always been super responsible, and had to pay for insurance, gas, maintenance and have a job to get a car and be able to drive. A BMW! I was trying to find a way to let him know that, that probably wasn’t going to happen anytime soon.  He said he was praying for God to bring him the car, kind of like it was just gonna show up in the driveway.  He wasn’t doing anything to help him get the car, he was just hoping that it would show up.  Now I want to say that I DO believe in miracles buuuuuut, I would be shocked if a bmw showed up in the driveway, for a 16 yr old who had no way of paying, maintaining or insuring a bmw.

So hope is an interesting thing for me, because Hope is a belief that things can happen, change, or be had.  Hope keeps our dreams alive.  Hope keeps us striving for what we haven’t yet experienced.  Hope sustains those in dire situations.

Sometimes though we get stuck in the hope circle, We say things like “I hope I can get a promotion” , “I hope I make more money”, “I hope I get published”, “I hope someone buys my art”…. on and on….

But we don’t do anything to move us toward our goals or dreams.  We don’t prepare ourselves, our world, our lives for our hopes and dreams to come to fruition.  Kind of like my son and his hope for a BMW.

Hope keeps our dreams and soul alive, but most times it takes preparation and good ol fashioned hard work to see our hopes as real.

Sooooo….If you feel like your hopes have been just that hopes for years with nothing changing… then do something different….

Make a list of your hopes and put it on your bathroom mirror, or in a place that you will see them everyday.

Then do one thing to move you closer to one of those hopes.  Small steps…. make an appt. , send a thank you note, send your work to a publisher, make a date, talk to that someone that you have had a crush on.  Just one thing and watch what happens! Watch what happens in you and in your universe!  It’s magical!

Keep that up until you can cross then off your list.

My HOPE is that you will see all your hope and dreams start coming true.

Luv YOu

Big Smile = Shawn

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
