Strength-bird-for-web

As the filming for my new online workshops began this week my resolve was surely tested.  With new camera angles, lighting, microphones, monitors, cables, extension cords and furniture, I was unprepared for the details and length of time this was going to take. I was high energy and optimistic. In my mind I would get in, be fabulous and get the job done in record time.  NOT!!… Nothing went as planned and there were so many technical difficulties I started to laugh at one point out of shear frustration. In the middle of filming one part of the techniques section, the overheard bracket that is mounted in the ceiling that holds the camera came down with the camera, cables and everything attached. We finally get all of this behind us and I proceed to showing my talents in front of the camera….um…. really??? It was if I had lost my brain. I couldn’t remember what I was doing, I would forget to put the mic on….. I would drop an fumble thing… oh Lord! I finally had to put the pause button on and catch my breath. We had been at this for so many days that I literally forgot what day it was.

I started asking myself, do I really want to do this? What was I thinking, that I could take on such a project? The fear comes, the self doubt…. you know the pattern. So I got real quiet, and really sure about what I was doing. It is so important to really know what the desire of your heart is. Authenticity will come through no many what your doing if it’s from your heart. It also gives you the strength to keep going! Soooo….. Rested a bit, took a deep breath and dived right back in!.

Here’s what I learned on the journey this last week and what I want you to know.

1. We always have a choice….. I could have decided that this experience is not what I wanted. Starting something and deciding to do something different is not a fail. It is a learning lesson and we get to choose our path.

2. Get quiet…. When we are in the midst of craziness and stress, we need to get to a quiet place in our being, our heart, our soul and search out our motive and desires. Even tho this was stressful, I really love filming and sharing what I do.

3. Everything worth doing takes work! I’m just about 100% sure that all of the champions of life, art, business and sports got there through hard work, trials and drive.

4. Laugh…… Laugh at yourself, the circumstances, the situation…. It will get better! It’s just stuff….. and if we know deep down what our desires are…. we will persevere. Life’s too short to be miserable…. Laughter is the best medicine and a great release.

I hope your 4th of July was great and I hope your Monday is even better. Chin up, deep breath, You can do it!

You are loved!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
