I was having a hard time finding inspiration this week. The best way for me to overcome that is to just play and inspiration always comes. Letting go of exceptions and deadlines always brings it out of me. So this is the product of play. It is different from my usual kind a thing…. but that’s the fun of it. So get out your Gelli plate and have some fun.

Enjoy the video.

the-last-thought

Where is home for you? Websters calls home a refuge, a shelter, a place of rest, a residence.

Home for me is not a dwelling, but a feeling, a knowing. From a child, up till now,I have moved many, many times. Making a home is more than just the surrounding walls, it’s a feeling of safety. I didn’t have that safety as a child (which is why I still have to sleep with the lights on):)… So as an adult, I made it a mission to create “home” in the small houses, big houses, or apartments I have lived in. Creating peace, and safety for MYSELF as well as for my kids. A place where you can speak freely with love and be yourself. Where I can be myself. Where you can open your heart.

This space in the blogoshpere can be home, your friends house can be home, A mountain top can be home. Any place can be home, that you can gather your loves and be open and safe.

I pray that you have a “home”, You can make it happen, it might take work, and you might have to change a few things. But find the place for you and your loved ones to be free.

You are loved!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!

Thank you so much again for the inspiration. I have been doubting the use of a Gelli Plate as I did not really “get” it yet. But your video does make it interesting.
I like your thoughts on the meaning of home. Home for me is a place where I feel at ease. Where I can be myself no matter how my mood is.
Especially now with the huge refugee issue here in Germany, I daily give many thanks to have had the luck in my life to be born in a “normal” country and have been able to live a “normal” life in (feeled) freedom…
Have a great start in the new week – Irma

I so love this wonderful and whimsical page – it makes me smile. I understand about feeling safe and keeping a light on – I do – to this day – keep a light on. But I do love my very, very small craft room – and will give my gelli plate another go – I liked the taped down paper technique. Thank you so much for sharing your most awesome art.
