Facing our fears and pain

Winter is a time of reflection, As I have begun to experience winter in the North East… Everything gets gray and all the beautiful flowers go into hibernation until spring when they suddenly bloom. It has always been a time of reflection and evaluating the year and goal setting for the new year. So today’s piece truly reflects that. As I was reading Sarah Ban Breathnachs book … Something More this week, I was stopped by a passage in her book.

She writes… “I fully believe that we can alter the course of our destiny in wondrous ways when we invite into our lives the every lessons that frighten us. Regardless of how we choose to look at our fears and pain, whether we have caused our own problems or we are simply caught in the snares of others, whether we are blind sided by a sudden crisis or have been running from one for a long time…. we only have three choices…..

  1. Ingore it and hope it will go away… It won’t
  2. Try and live with it…. Not forever
  3.  Look for the gift within our fear and pain, and benefit from it… When we do we emerge on the other side of life, surprised by joy.

My prayer for all of us is that we will look into the pain, into the fear to find the gift, the learning place, the lesson, the joy, the peace,…. the gift

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 30 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul.
