Comparison is the thief of Joy ~~ Theodore Roosevelt
I was talking to another artist this weekend at a show and she kept doubting her talent, and comparing her sales with others, she questioned her choices. I assured her that she needed to stay true to her calling and where her heart was leading her in her creative practice. But I’m not gonna lie, I too, have had those feelings of not being enough, creative enough, of not making the quality or the money of others… it is a yucky feeling… and it can happen so quickly without any notice and too often so many can get stuck in the comparison game. No matter what you do, what ever profession… shucks….! if your a human being… it’s easy to compare. But I want to encourage you that … YOU are special and have gifts that I don’t have and vice a versa … We have all been given our uniqueness… Our special gifts, our quirks, our idiosyncrasies … We need to embrace them and get really, really grateful for them and for our own stamp of self on the world. Being comfortable in our own skin takes practice. But there is nothing more motivating, exciting, beautiful, sexy and alluring than a person comfortable with who they are. Insecurities come and go and we learn and grow from them but then we let it go.
My friend… YOU are amazing, just how you are ….
