This piece was inspired by the recent wedding of our daughter, and the gathering of family that came to share in the beautiful day.
Family can be tricky… it can be good and it can be hard.
Growing up in a household that was inconsistent and chaotic, then losing my mom when I was 15 and not finding my father until I was 32. You can imagine I have some strong feelings about family life.
However!… as adults we get to choose how we want our family lives to be. We also get to create the family that we want. I have more “family” that are not by blood than I do that is.
My story is not perfect, and I’m not the perfect parent and it took alot of guts, growing and therapy (lol) to get to the place that I’m at, but it was worth it!
Our blended family of kids and friends and those who need a place to call home is a place of love and forgiveness. A safe place to be yourself. Although not perfect (who’s is) it is beautiful, messy and full of love! Just the way it should be.
Embrace your story, don’t let it define you and then create the family and peaceful place that you call home.
