This project was inspired by a recent bout of creative block.  After spending the past year and a half creating nearly every day, I woke up one morning and found that my creative drive was GONE.  While I know that this happens to all of us from time to time, it was disconcerting none the less!
I allowed myself to rest for a bit.  I read.  I spent time with friends and family.  I spent time outdoors.  But as one month passed, then two, then three, I became worried.  Was my creativity gone forever?
One day I sat down with my art journal and supplies, and this page just flowed.  The playful approach I took to create this page helped me to find my creative joy once again.  I hope that watching the video will inspire you to find yours.
Tips for Finding Your Creative Joy
  1.  Work in an art journal with removable pages.  If you’re feeling creatively stressed, you don’t have to live with pages that you are unhappy with.
  2. Use cheap paint.  This is not the time to be worried about “wasting” your expensive stuff.  Let nothing feel precious!
  3. Avoid approaching your page with a preconceived idea of what you’d like to create.  Just sit down with your supplies and play
  4. Turn on some music!  Anything that makes you want to dance will do!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
