The adventure begins with Laura Dame

Welcome to my very first Creative Team post! I am so excited to be here and to be able to share with you.

Today I am making a mixed media piece that I plan to frame, which is part of the reason I decided to use this Strathmore Mixed Media paper (the other part is because I just got it on BOGO sale!).

When I start my projects, I like to break up the blank page with something, whether it is collaged papers and bits, some gesso and scribbles, or both, which is what I decided to do here. Either way, it makes the project less intimidating, as sometimes a blank page or canvas can be.

From there, I just began playing with paints and stencils.

I ended by stamping this sentiment, which I really feel is appropriate for the beginning of my adventure as a Creative Team member.

I hope you enjoy the process, and that you will find some inspiration from it!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
