Mixed media canvas “Never let go of your dreams”

Hi and welcome to my first creative team post! I’m super excited and honored to be able to share what I’ve created with you all.

I wanted to make something for a friend who recently moved away, so I thought it would be cool to create a mixed media canvas with her favorite colors, to hang in her new room.

To start off I like to break up the white space with a quick background so it’s not too daunting. For this project I used my go-to technique, using book paper and washi tape along with some kind of primer.

Once I was finished with the base I pulled out a couple of Shawn’s masks, a few sprays and played with some paints with my favorite tools (my fingers).

I finished off the canvas with Shawn’s dream catcher stencil and a quote because my friend loves that kind of thing.

I really enjoyed creating this piece and playing with Shawn’s stencils, I don’t normally use stencils in my art so it was really cool to see how the canvas turned out.

I hope you enjoy the video and find inspiration from it. I can’t wait to share what I create with you all soon.

am a self taught artist. I call my paintings “she” if there’s a girl on it. I love the feel and smell of books especially old ones. When I decided I wanted to be an artist I had no idea how to draw and where to start, so my mum introduced me to mixed media.

Have a great day, Be inspired create and know that you are loved!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 30 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul.
