I layered it on thick in this piece, lots of texture with modeling paste, gesso and crackle paint and then I added some of my favorite papers and stencil work to make this just so yummy!

I want to thank you guys for so many wonderful messages and emails with love after sharing last week about my struggle with an email. As I read and re-read all the notes I got to thinking about my journey and how I haven’t always chosen the right response and remembered the knowledge and wisdom I received from some of my blunders and not so finer moments. I also remembered how I decided to make changes in my life and live a more gracious life. I share more about this in the video, but the bottom line is that we choose who we are and how we show up in the world.

Supplies used:

9×12 mdf, Deco Art Media – matte medium, gesso, modeling paste, crackle paint, fluid acrylics (quin magenta, quin violet, cerilean blue hue, quin gold, cobalt teal hue, carbon black, titanium raw umber) collage papers

Stencils used: vintage crosses, woodland owl, old world mini, vintage quatrefoil, numbers, silhouette flowers 1 and 3

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 30 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul.
