“Snarky little Christmas tags”

Since I was doing a video in December, I knew that I wanted to do something with a holiday theme. I had originally wanted to create some kind of ornament, but I happened across some art trading cards (ATC) on Pinterest one day that were made from chipboard coasters. I thought they would make some really cute gift tags, so I got to work.

I began by going through all of my scrap papers and pulling out everything that looked like Christmas colors. I collaged, stenciled and doodled all over those coasters. Basically just playing on pieces of cardboard, so nothing precious to fret over. I’m all about art that is easy and stress-free!

I decided to use quotes that were funny and a little snarky. I knew that my girlfriends and family would get a kick out of that. This is such a fun way to share your art and dress up all of your gifts this year.

Wishing you all a warm and wonderful holiday! Enjoy the video.

Materials Used:

4″ coasters, scrap papers, Liquitex matte medium, various colors of acrylic paints, foam brushes, posca pens, water-soluble markers, Signo white gel pen, hole punch, typed quotes, ribbon.

Stencils used: Pattern 6 and background 2

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
