The texture and depth of this piece is just amazing and it just speaks to me in so many ways. The combination of modeling paste, gesso, texture paste and crackle paint just are delicious. I love the colors and the moodiness, it really reflects to story behind it.

As I uttered this week that I need strength… I knew I needed to dive into those words a little bit and write out why I was feeling like I needed it. For me anytime I’m reaching for my dreams or working hard on a project to put out into the world there are so many doubts and voices that feed me lies. So I wrote this out in my journal.

“What is strength? It’s about facing the fear. Calling out fear as a liar. It’s about doing the work to know myself so deeply, that I can lean into the fear and recognize the lies. It’s about replacing the ugly lies with TRUTH. It’s about authenticity and being willing to show up in the world with my unique set of gift and be willing to share them. It’s about taking care of my physical and spiritual self. “

I just want to remind you like I have to remind myself that YOU are strong and don’t listen to the lies that you or anyone else tells you. My love… do the work to get past it and feel how strong an powerful you are. Feel just how amazing you are! I share more in the video….You are loved!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!

This piece is gorgeous. I love it and what you had to say about it.
Sometimes I feel like I just don’t have any strength left, but I keep pushing myself. When you have a child facing mental and physical challenges, it is really hard. She is a grown woman, but has a low I.Q. that is about a 9 or 10 year old. We have had legal guardianship over her for a long time and it is wearing us down. She has spent most of the last three months in mental and regular hospitals. Needless to say we don’t have any freedom to travel or do anything else that retired people do. I am losing interest in things that I used to love. I try to get in the mood to craft. That has saved me in the past. It is getting harder to motivate myself. Sorry to dump all this on you. I will keep this video so I can listen your wise words whenever I feel down. Thank you.

Oh Karen, I’m so sorry you are carrying such a heavy burden. Just do one thing, like a single stroke of paint, or glue down one piece of paper, it doesn’t have to be big, but you might be amazed at how one simple act can stir your soul. I will keep you in my prayers… keep going, you are stronger than you think, you are loved!
