I have come to enjoy working on wooden panels and boards instead of canvas. There is something about the sturdiness that makes it easier to glue down papers and collage.

I started on this panel with no plan, and honestly very little inspiration. I began with my torn papers like usual, and then decided to just take a bunch of stencils and throw color down, because it was better than just sitting there staring. Well, that really got my juices flowing, and the rest just kind of poured out!

My favorite moment of the whole project was when I added the alcohol, and it created little circles in the paint, allowing you to see the layers underneath. Let me tell you, I had a hard time covering that up!

I truly hope you enjoy the project!

Fun Fact: 1. In my day job I am a Sonographer (ultrasound technician). 2. Both of my boys have the same first name (one is mine, and one is my husband’s). We get looks like we are crazy whenever we introduce them to someone new.

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
