I used to be afraid of creating faces, but now it’s one of my favorite things. and they become personal reflections and have such deep meaning.
Creating a mixed media face takes longer than a regular piece but I love getting lost in the details. And the eyes… oh the eyes they take some extra effort to get the right depth so they can tell a story. but I love it!
I love choosing all the right papers that tell her story, It’s so therapeutic and I couldn’t create my faces without my Stabilo all pencil and my charcoal pencil.
The quote that inspired this piece has been sitting on my desk for a couple of weeks and I just kept searching for the right thing to create that would capture the meaning….. “We cannot become who we want, by remaining who we are.” I’m so glad I waited because the inspiration found it’s home.
I didn’t put it on the piece because the tiny words on her chest just showed up as I was creating her and they spoke to me and went with the quote that inspired me. I share more about this in the video.
