Today the fun starts by reusing an old piece that didn’t light my fire, but the color was great.
I used a triple whammy with super heavy gesso and chalk paste in sage and vintage lace. So yummy. Covering the whole piece and then scraping back to reveal the stenciled image. I also pushed my paper into the gesso instead of laying them first. I just had so much fun playing with this one.
All the layers, of course, tell the story of the inspiration of this piece. This last week while talking to my son who is an entrepreneur and coach, he said “that we can’t be our true selves in a false story”.
That just spoke to my soul, ……. because for years I lived a false story, a story that I thought was the truth, stories that I picked up from childhood and adulthood. Words that were spoken into my life that someone else thought was my truth but wasn’t.
I didn’t know me well enough back then to know the difference.
I did a lot of work to find the truth, to find my truest self and I’m still doing the work!
I share more about it in the video. Enjoy!

Happy Sunday, Shawn, This was truly an amazing video and really touched my heart. The quote your son gave you really made me think! I would never have thought about my life in that way. I discovered by listening to you I live my life through other people and for other people so I don’t really know who I am and what makes ME happy. I’m 71 now so I guess I’d better get busy and figure it out! I realized listening to you I would feel very uncomfortable writing down my good qualities and would feel the same way asking others, even more so asking others. However, I also realize if I really desire to find these things out I have to work through the discomfort of the process! I am very much a beginner at art but have found I love playing with texture and paint and collage and the whole idea of creating something. I’ve never done any one thing well so it’s easy for me to get discouraged but it’s quite amazing to me since I started this I don’t have that negative feeling of throwing in the towel and wanting to give up. It’s easy for me to say to myself, you just don’t have what it takes, and yet so far have kept going for some reason. I just want you to know how much you have encouraged me today! I really needed to hear what you had to say so thank you from the bottom of my heart!! You made my day! I LOVE your work and watching you create! You are so talented!! Take care and God bless!! Christi
Christi, Thank you so much and I’m so glad that you have been inspired by my words and my work! It definitely is a process to know ourselves and I pray that you would dive in a little to see you for the wonderful person that you are. And I’m sure that you are good at things that no one else is…. I’m especially happy that you have started creating and have stayed with it. It only gets better! Thanks so much for sharing the journey with me…. YOU are loved!
I love everything about this….both the painting and your words. Thank you so much for being and sharing your true self with us. <3
Michelle, thanks so much and it’s always a constant practice to see and find our true selves. Thanks so much for being here!
