close-up of a mixed media art piece
Drywall tape and dirty paint color

In today’s Sunday inspriration I use some drywall tape for texture and I show you how I dirty up my paint color to make it soft and subtle.

I also created a collage sheet just for this piece’s background and it’s free to you in the Subscriber resource library.

I was inspired for this week’s creation by some emails that I received from many of you this week that are struggling. That are hurting and in transition.

So I knew I needed to speak some truth into your lives…… because I know what it feels like to have gone through loss and heartache. To question yourself, to feel small and sit with doubt and shame.

The quote reads “when there is no enemy within, the enemies on the outside cannot hurt us” African proverb

Too often we are our own worst enemy and only add to the hurt. I share more about it in the video.

But YOU are resilient, strong and unshakable… even if you don’t feel like it right now!

shawn petite in her studio in front of an easel

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 30 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul.
