I created so much art from October 2019 through Christmas. I was so busy and so creative. When Christmas arrived, I was relieved and took a much-needed break. I was feeling burned out and my creativity level was at zero. I’m sure many of you artists and creators out there get to this point at some time. It’s frustrating but I think it’s necessary for our bodies to be telling us to take a break. We should listen and slow down. I did slow down and focused on Christmas and making memories with my family and friends. It was wonderful and I enjoyed every minute of it.
On January 2, 2020, everything rebooted again. I went back to work and started planning out my first quarter goals for 2020. I also knew it was time to make another Creative Design Team video and this one is my fourth already! I love making these videos and I love being challenged on what to create. I sat down and tried to get inspired in my usual places like Pinterest, Instagram, and the world around me, but nothing. My niece Elisabeth, who has been painting with me since she was 2 years old and is now 11, wanted to play with clay one day. I pulled out my clay and started thinking about how I could combine clay with Shawn’s stencils. I realized I could use the stencils as stamps in the clay and that I could also stencil on the clay and make something. I dug deeper to see what I could find on YouTube and I found some video tutorials on making air dry clay bowls with Shawn’s stencils. These videos I found are a few years old and nothing recently seemed to come up or at least that I could find. I watched these demos and knew I wanted to make a bowl and that this was going to be my creative video. I hope you like it and I hope it broadens how you think about stencils.
