I started this piece without a real plan. The only plan I had was to find some peace, to find some calm and find a way to temper my anxiety.
Creating always does that, I get lost in the process and tune everything out. And I needed that in a big way this week.
There is so much uncertainty with the virus and the nonstop barrage of media is overwhelming and anxiety-inducing.
So I pulled a few things out and just started creating and this is what came out.
I used a new collage pak that was perfect and some of the background papers are free to you in the resource library.
The super heavy gesso was just the right thing for some yummy texture.
My hope is that I can be some sort of calm for you right now. That I can give you a few moments of rest in the mere act of creating.
My love, take care of yourself and your people, wash your hands and hold those you love tight! And help your community as you can in the safest way possible.
You are loved! Take a rest and enjoy the video.

Have a peaceful week. Be inspired, create and know that you are loved!
Watching you create this morning was just what I needed as well as hearing your beautiful words of inspiration. It was a beautiful reminder to go “within” to find the peace & love that I needed this morning. Thank you!
Tracy, I love it when my words come at the right time! It’s true our peace really starts from within… I hope your week is peaceful and I’m so grateful that you are here, watching and sharing in the journey. Hugs!
I love this! Your videos are the best gift on Sundays which is usually when I have the most free time to work. I learn something new every time I watch! Thank you for your inspiration.
Patti,
Thank you, thank you! I’m just so blessed to know that I can give some inspiration in some small ways! Thank you so much for being here and sharing the journey with me!
Long post… from the heart…
First of all it is such a pleasure to welcome your voice into my living room twice a week via one of these new wonderful videos. Even in a time where you are deeping creating in the zone, you have brought so many things to the table in this video, artistically and emotionally.
I loved the way that you describe Raw Umber and “smoky, darker and rich” and Burnt Umber as having an orange “orangy” undertone. Thank you for that easy to remember tip to distinguish them. And I have always LOVED Paynes Gray but have never purchased the Golden version of it. How delighted I was to see the rich blue when used undiluted. So beautiful! I cant wait to mix a sky blue from Golden’s formula.
The white bricks coming to fruition later in the piece, and then toned a bit with gray, was OH so pretty! Sometimes you have go with the flow and let the piece evolve, right?
I was also reminded to buy that versatile and very very cute Bricks and Bubbles stencil sometime very soon. I am famous for filling a shopping cart and then not returning to it.
Watching your creativity made my imagination fly. Ironically I am working on a piece that has a similar color palette. Thanks so much for letting us see your “Find Peace and Calm” video at this very stressful time of concern and fear of the unknown. I think that your idea for journal prompts next week is a VERY fun idea and departure for us all. I look forward to to it. Hoping that my typos are minimal!
Donna,
Thank you so much for your kind word and I’m so happy that I can share a bit of info or explanation that will help in your creativity! I’m so grateful that you are here, watching and sharing the journey! You are so, so loved!
I love this also. I am a professional mixed media artist and teacher and I look so forward to seeing your work every Sunday. It is such a treat for me. Keep it up Shawn, you are precious.
Thank you Glenda, this means so much! So happy you are sharing the journey with me!
