I was inspired to create this page when I saw a quote on Instagram that said: “Transformation takes time.” It reminded me of the butterfly so I went to Shawn Petite’s library of collage papers to find a butterfly. I love that there are options to download immediately or have it printed for you. I also couldn’t wait to use the new Spring stencils that I just received to create texture on my background. I love all the new stencil designs! I used Heavy Body Gesso because it has the same effect as a texture paste but dries faster in my experience and I like to be able to move on quickly with my layers. Even though I definitely still utilize my heat tool in between. I also went with a more monochromatic color theme for my journal page to go along with the colors of the butterfly print. It turned out much more moody than I intended but I love the final outcome and it really reflects the feelings behind the page. Even though I was inspired by the original quote I chose to use the quote from Shawn Petite’s Positive Words collage sheet that says “She decided to stop letting fear hold her back” – it seemed to go along with the original quote because letting go of the fear will allow the transformation to take place. I am so in love with the way this page turned out and hope it inspires you in your art journal this week. Thank you so much for watching my video today and joining me in this art-filled journey!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
