I love to go garage sale shopping or to thrift shops. You never know what you will find when you go and there are always great treasures to be found. Usually I’m looking at items I can use in my art. I look for craft supplies, vintage jewelry, old books, ephemera, and substrates for my artwork. For my video this week I used a wall décor picture I purchased at a garage sale. It was made of wood and had a flower painted on it and it was cute. When I see things like this I think about how I can repurpose them. In this instance I knew I could just apply Gesso to the picture and it would be ready for a creation.
This week’s project combines my re-purposed picture and Shawn’s Mason Jars and Cherry Blossoms stencils. I knew when these stencils came out, they were a definite choice for a project. I love them both. I especially love the Cherry Blossoms stencil because of the shapes and sizes of the blossoms. In my video I didn’t use the stencil in whole form, but rather I used small parts of it in a random fashion to get the effect I was looking for. I can see this stencil being used a lot in my artwork. It has so much potential.
