Today I used minimal colors and alot of mixing. It’s a great way to experiment when you limit your color palette.

It’s also a good way to get lost in creating and I needed that. This piece is titled “Putting the pieces together”

Because I feel like that’s what I’m doing and probably you too. I needed to create one thing at a time. One color, one shape on piece of paper. Because that’s all I could focus on.

I think we’re all doing that. In different ways. Our focus is different, feeling are present that we’re unfamiliar with. And sometimes we just need to do the next right thing. One thing at a time. Then we can put things back together, slowly.

That’s what this creative time was all about and I share all about it in the video.

So get your favorite few colors, some gesso, and crackle paint and lets take one step at a time to put the pieces together.

Enjoy the video.

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!

    Good morning Shawn,
As always it’s nice to watch and hear from you. I’m giving you permission to give yourself break 🙂

I have one question, can you put encaustic wax over that piece or would you have used different materials?

Hi Sherry! I’ve been trying hard to rest, not always easy when you own your own business… but I’m working on it! Encaustic is a totally different medium. It’s an oil base and works with oil products. So technically from a professional point of view it wont hold up. However, I have used encaustic with everything. Will all different kinds of medium oil and not oil based. The true encaustic artist would say never do it. but if you are working in a journal or something just for you I say go for it! Have fun playing! and thanks for being here!

    Hi Shawn,
Thanks a million for the wonderful inspiration that you are both with your kind voice and the inspiring videos you do for us.
I can’t wait to have a go and let the colors and shapes flow on the format, using a limited palette. I realise you have been running the business with a limited staff, and doing very well too.
I have put in two orders this far. One for stencils and one for papers. Nothing has come, so I wondered if I had done everything right with my orders. Have I given the correct postage for my parcels?
Perhaps you can advise me as I am busting to use these items.
Thanking you in advance. With love. Pamela Armstrong (UK)
