Hope. It’s what we all need more of lately. It’s what I am choosing to look for in the day to day. I have been creating a lot with the color yellow (which is totally out of my norm) and a lot with butterflies lately which you can see reflected in my Instagram feed and blog. Maybe it’s because it’s finally spring and I have started to see them more and more in the yard or maybe it’s because my family and I are currently living with my parents and my mom absolutely loves butterflies! However, I think mostly it’s because, in uncertain times, I’m reminded of the journey of the caterpillar when it turns into a butterfly. One of my favorite activities to do with the kids in the spring is order our tiny little caterpillars and watch them as they grow, spin their chrysalis, and then emerge as butterflies. It’s a beautiful reminder for us to endure and continue to have hope. Shawn Petite has many products with butterflies and I love her downloadable collage sheets for instant gratification. There were so many to choose from but I wanted to have a lot of bright and colorful butterflies on my piece. Using the wreath stencil as a guide, I simply fussy cut the butterflies after printing and collaged them on my canvas board. I’ve been loving collage lately when I’m feeling a little lackluster in the mojo department which can happen during times of stress. I love that I can make something unique out of something already made just by adding paint, texture, and my own style to it. It’s a simple way to pull me back into creating which always calms my overthinking. Thank you so much for watching my video today for a little inspiration and hope to fill your day!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
