Better than yesterday mixed media layering Sunday inspiration 6-14-20

In today’s project, I used only a few colors and did a lot of mixing to get just the right colors. I love playing with paint.

I worked hard to get like each layer blended into the next like an old and grungy wall.

And at the last minute decided to a few flowers which didn’t really really seem to go but represented grace and was part of the story of the piece.

I had several quotes in my journaling this week but this one was the one I needed the most.

There are so many things happening right now that I felt like I wasn’t doing anything very well.

Once I really took this quote in and knew that all I needed to do today was be better than yesterday. I allowed myself some grace and a little breathing room to be human, to rest and just work on today.

And then show up again tomorrow and do the best I can. I share more about it in the video.

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!

I loved your layers today, it turned out so beautiful…

What do you use to put the black around the edges?

I have used distressed black crayon, but I am never happy with
the way it looks, yours is so nice and even.

I always look forward to your Sunday videos

Can I shop from your store from Canada?

Thank you, I use soft black pastel for around the outer edges. Thanks for sharing the journey with me!
