In today’s piece… I used very few items to create this…
there’s something about simplifying the process that makes it easier to create right now.
I created the papers for my leaves using acrylic high flow and acrylic ink and just this process was so good for my soul.
I even stenciled with the high flow…. oh the freedom! I loved it.
As I began pulling my ideas for what I wanted to create I had another quote or part of a quote in mind and it just didn’t feel right…. so I waited and wrote, and wrote some more about how I was feeling and what I needed in today.
In that journaling I wrote out “Today is a gift Shawn, find the joy in right now” and I knew…. that would be the words that moved me forward in my creative process.
I share more about it in the video.
Supplies used: 12 x12 mdf board, gesso, Lukas acrylic paint in teal and fern, carbon black acrylic, Golden high flow acrylic (permanent violet dark, green gold, quinacridone magenta, Daler & Rowney acrylic ink in sepia, Posca pen in black, charcoal pencil (soft)
Stencils used: spring wreath, scribble marks 1, dictionary page, old type text large, rustic font
This week my newest workshop “Journal Journey” came out.
I had originally planned to release this workshop later in the year but felt that with everything that’s going on in our nation, that maybe now was the time.
Journaling has always been a special time for me and now more than ever I need to find solace in those sacred pages. And maybe you do too.
Our journals are the place that we can let it all go, feel the things we’re feeling, say the words and just spill.
It’s a walkthrough 4 journal pages start to finish.
Learning to….
-break the blank page
-how color can represent feelings
-how letting go of perfection and embracing the messy page can lead us to the next layer
-how pattern can actually simplify
and so much more!

Hi Shawn
Thank you, thank you, thank you for reminding me that today is a gift.
This morning I felt so depressed and could not get out of bed. Fortunately a lovely friend called. It was after 11,30 am. She said those same words to me and that was enough to get me up. Later, I was surprised to find your workshop with that lovely sentiment. I have been struggling lately, so will make the picture and hang it at eye level next to my bed, so I can see it every morning till I don’t need it anymore.
You always remind your viewers that they are loved. This is so important to remember.
Thanks again and much love to you too.

Pam, I’m so glad that my words came at just the right time. I love it when that happens!
I hope you do make it so that you can be reminded every day that there’s at least one thing to be grateful for.
Hang in there, I’m not sure what you’re going through, but it feels like just being a human being is hard and heavy right now.
You gonna make it and write down what you’re grateful for each day and it will make a difference, I promise.
Hugs and love!
