I start a project by picking colors that work together, stencils that stand out to me at the moment, and I chose to use a journal to paint on.
As I began painting, I wasn’t sure of my direction. I became very clear with the BE STRONG stencil would be the focal point. I chose the cute DOODLE MINIS WITH MASK as my layer to cover the journal. I enjoy creating textures in my pieces.

This journal developed into a gift for a friend who recently was diagnosed with cancer. Tears developed, my emotions grew, and so did this piece. She loves layers and fiber art. Ha, so I hand sewed the phrases of the stencils. Listen for an easier tip (I didn’t discover till the end).
Enjoy my journey and remember, BE STRONG!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!

I believe this will be very encouraging for your friend. I pray she is victorious in her battle. I like the sewing of the words!
