I took the long road to get this finished piece. Sometimes it happens that way.

The layers on this are so yummy…. and it’s not what I had planned but I’m so thankful for the journey this took.

I also didn’t follow my own advice when I started and that was part of my problem. As I redid and redid each layer, the light bulb came on and I let go of what I did and covered it up. It was smooth sailing after that.

The inspiration came from Edith Eger’s book “The Gift” and the chapter that I needed to read right now. I will go back to it again and again.

The title of the chapter is “No one rejects you, but you”! Wow!

This last week, I was having a bout of self-doubt and old tapes came up to try to confirm my feelings.

This is a regular struggle for me…..I’ve done lots of work (and therapy) to overcome and quiet those yucky tapes. But sometimes things pop up at the most unexpected times.

Edith says in this chapter that I was reading “we get to choose how we talk to ourselves”….. when I read that…. things got real quiet around me and I knew what I needed to do.

I share all about it in the video because I know that you could probably use a little reminder that YOU are born beautiful, joyful, and uniquely you!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!

I always use your Sunday video as my church and inspiration for the upcoming day and week. This week your message was outstanding. A keeper. I have the book, ‘The Gift’ and am getting it out right now to read the chapter you referred to. I needed what you said today so much so thank you, thank you.
