mixed media abstract with texture and acrylic ink by Shawn Petite artist

Oh the joy that this piece brought me! And stenciling with acrylic inks was so much fun!

I chose so many things in this piece that represented the inspiration. The texture and grunge, the vintage papers–they all represent who I am.

The bright bold colors also bring meaning to this piece.

I started reading a new book this week by Luvvie Jones called the The Fear- Fighter Manual: Lessons from a Professional Troublemaker.

I’m only on chapter two, but this chapter makes me cheer! It made me sit a little taller with a bit more confidence. The title – “Be too much”.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told I’m too much _____ . (you fill in the blank) Because I’ve heard it all.

But Luvvie goes on to say in the chapter, that thing that people say is too much….. is often our superpower!

I share more about it in the video… and hopefully, it will make you cheer too!

Enjoy the video.

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!

Not only educational, inspirational but also very moving and mentally helpful. I enjoyed seeing all of the techniques used to building up to the final result of a “WOWZER” of a creation that a viewer takes time for more than a quick glance or even a second look-It commands your attention and inner thoughts. The book
references were very meaningful and appropriate. Thank you for related your life to what the author implied- now it is clear and all comes together for me. You are TOO
SWEET, and that is certainly not a fault! Great job, well done and many thanks. I watch all of your videos and learn something from them each time. xoxo

Though I loved your final project, I learned so much in the way you applied the different mediums. Thank you so much!

You are an inspiration to me. I, too, am too much. The book I just started to read is “The Highly Sensitive Person – How to Thrive When the World Overwhelms You” by Elaine N. Aron, Ph.D. So far it is proving to be helpful.
Thank you for being you. 🙏

Thanks so much Susan, I think we all are too much in some way. Learning to love those parts of ourselves is a life long journey. I hope you enjoy your new book.
Have a great rest of your week and thanks for being here!
