Mixed media abstract with gel plate
I love how this piece came together. It was by complete serendipity and those are the best pieces.
I wasn’t sure what I was going to create for my weekly Sunday video and was looking for inspiration.
I went to my journal and wrote out a few things about how I was feeling and nothing spoke to me like it normally does.
When this happens I wait. Because the ideas percolate and most of the time inspiration will come.
So I went about my day and work and as I came around the corner in my studio, my sweater got hooked on a stencil. Like really embedded into the fibers of my sweater and I had to take it off the rack and unstick it from my sweater 🙂
That stencil was the nest stencil and I said to myself, man I haven’t used this one in a while, I laid it on my work table not really thinking that the stencil would be part of this Sunday.
Every time I walked past it, I thought about what a bird’s nest represents, birth and new beginnings, so many new things…. and that night as I got ready for bed it all started to flow.
I took my phone out and wrote what I saw and thought about all the “new” and shifting things in my life and this piece was born…. I share more about all the new things in the video.
Have fun watching!

Absolutely love your art this Sunday but darn, both the bird’s nest and little flower’s stencils are sold out. Are they available anyplace else?
Hi Shawn, I found the stencils for today’s project in the Resource Library.
Thank you, Judy
