Resting with the water – Mixed media landscape

Rest on the water which is what this piece is titled, was just what happened this week.

The water is always this place of peace for me, plus I got to get out to the water this week with my kids! Bonus!

As the world begins to open back up again, We are getting in as much time with our people as possible. So I took some time this week to hug and laugh and sing and realize how grateful I am.

That was the inspiration for this piece and I’ll share more about it in the video.

I knew what I wanted to create but actually making it happen didn’t go quite as planned. You see in the video how I struggled to integrate my tissue paper photos.

I also struggled with contrast, but I fixed it and let go of a few things along the way.

Supplies used: 11×14 mdf board, Liquitex fluid matte medium, Utrecht gesso, Liquitex soft body acrylic (Muted grey, Prussion blue hue), Golden soflat in cobalt teal, Blick matte acrylic in turquoise, Liquitex acrylic ink titanium white, Golden high flow titanium white, Lukas cryl in raw umber and prussion blue,Soft pastels, Tissue paper, Images printed on tissue, Palette knife, Dr Ph Martin black india ink, Generals charcoal pencil.

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 30 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul.
