Oh, the layers in this piece! I started with no idea where I was going. My only inspiration was from a new book that I got from Morgan Harper Nichols – All Along You Were Blooming.

If you don’t have this book…it is just an inspiration all the way around! – The art and the words move me every time I turn the page.

The quote from Morgan spoke to me deep down and went along with my word for the year.

“Even though you have learned the skill of running on empty, now is the time to learn the art of breathing deep all over again, letting no one make you feel that you cannot show up with the truth of where you are.” MHN

The thought of showing up with the truth of where you are in relationships, with yourself, with your creativity…. Allowing yourself permission to take the mask off and be who you are. There is so much freedom and yet so much fear.

The layers in this piece represent my truth and I share all about it and the process in the video.

I hope you enjoy it and always know that you are loved!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!

This piece reminds me of a painting I love called “Moon Temple”. What draws me into your piece are the white drips under the arch. I see tears for some reason. This is a piece that for me evokes all kinds of emotions. Amazing, Shawn. Last night I was watching a show on the Sonoran Desert and there was a short segment on a flower that only blooms in June and only blooms at night. I was reflecting to myself on what a metaphor that is and that comes to mind again hearing the title of the book you referenced. Thank you for sharing this piece, Shawn.

Debbie, I love that you love the drips… to me it brings the whole together… and maybe it is the tears that are part of the journey. Thank your for sharing your insight and beautiful words. Hugs!

Oh my Goddess, Shawn, you were working with the fairies. With the Star beings. This is the most magical piece I’ve seen and the process felt magical too, like you were in this enchanted trance, following your inner magic. I love it.

This birthed some new expressions that at least I had not yet seen in your work, especially that amazing luminous arch and the way you capture the light and the sparks of magic that surround the emanations of the sacred world that guide us… you capture that so well that the art work is in itself an emanation of that sacred presence!!!

And the bottom half… jewels. That is what I feel. The jewels of our lessons in earth. For in the darkness, the light is forged.

We often believe that the Shadows in us are the “bad” parts in us. And granted, those Gremlin voices are constantly intercepting our divine expression. But here’s what I’ve learned: the shadows frame the light. They are like your charcoal pencil. They allow us to see the shape and give shape to our light.

And in that sacred conflict between our Shadows and our light, Jewels are hatched. Jewels of wisdom, compassion and life tools.

And the materials and treatment you used expressed those Jewels so well.

The process was also different, you were following those fairies and star dust that takes us through the path of ease and grace, and because of that, it was effortless. You did not try so hard. Instead you found just the right textures and colors and blended them so gracefully.

It was a pleasure and a magic watching you work and the end result is also magical.

And thanks for quoting the poet. That was also very inspiring to me, as I blend poetry, art and story as a path to quicken and deepen personal transformation.

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE this experience. Thanks for being such a luminous channel by showing up with your truth.
