Free your soul – Collage paper challenge 6-16-24

We are continuing our collage paper challenge today. We are on #3. I have to admit that this color palette was a bit of a challenge. The colors were just a bit different. But I made it happen with just a few tweeks with my paints.

I also didn’t have a lot of collage papers in these colors, but I used old ones and created pattern on top to match the colors. I was tempted to make new collage papers to fit, but that’s not the point of this challenge. This is about using up what I have:)

The challenge also frees me up, which sounds odd, since I’m giving myself restrictions on what I can use. But sometimes that’s the best way to get free.

When I have too many choices, it can feel overwhelming. And that’s why this is titled Free Your Soul.

I’ll share more about the inspiration and my journey on this journal page in the video. Have fun watching and I hope you create your own version of the challenge.

Supplies used:

  1. Handmade journal
  2. Collage paper
  3. Liquitex fluid matte medium and matte gel
  4. Liquitex gesso black and white
  5. Acrylic paint – Quin magenta, Cad yellow, Cad orange, Green gold, Unbleached titanium
  6. Grumbacher raw umber
  7. Soft pastel sticks in like colors
  8. Raw umber soft pastel pencil
  9. Generals charcoal pencil

The schedule, details and color palette to download are all available in the Subscriber Library if you want to join the challenge.

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 30 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul.

Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
