Creating right now is about doing anything that feels gentle and easy—anything that gets me back to the table.
That’s how today’s journal page began.
I knew I wanted to create, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in my Molly journal. So I pulled out some paper and started playing with her watercolors. Then I reached for more watercolor, added a few stencils, crunched up paper, and slowly got lost in the process.
Sometimes, when we’re struggling to create—when we’re hurting, grieving, exhausted, or simply carrying more than we know how to hold—the hardest part is showing up.
In those moments, I think we only need to do one thing.
Do one thing… even if it’s not great.
Then do it again.
And again.
Until a little spark of curiosity begins to tug at you. When it does, follow it.
We don’t have to feel joyful or inspired to pick up a brush. In fact, I’ve learned that some of my most important creative moments happen when I’m at my lowest. The brush becomes a place where I can let it all out. The paint tells stories my heart doesn’t yet have words for.
That was the beginning of this creative session.
I cried as I washed watercolor across the paper. I prayed. I got angry. I missed Molly with every part of me.
And then, little by little, I got lost in the process.
I kept making papers until the tears slowed down. Until my breathing felt steadier. Until my mind felt a little clearer.
And somewhere along the way, a few ideas began to appear.
But even if they hadn’t…
Even if no ideas had come at all…
That time spent with a brush in my hand would still have mattered.
It would have been a small bandage for my soul.
My hope for you today is that you’ll pick up your brush and do something. Anything. Scribble, paint, collage, make a mess, glue down scraps of paper—whatever feels possible.
You don’t have to create something beautiful.
You just have to begin.
I hope you enjoy today’s paper-making session and this sweet journal page that reminds me of Molly and of what I’m learning every single day: healing doesn’t happen all at once. It happens one small step, one prayer, one brushstroke at a time.
Always remember you are so LOVED. 🩷
