“Even when life feels heavy, there are still moments that carry beauty.” — The Practice of Healing by Chris Bharnes
I’ve been reading The Practice of Healing by Chris Bharnes, and I can honestly say it has settled deep into my heart. It feels as though so many of the words were written just for this season of my life.
This quote stayed with me all week. I found myself repeating it over and over, letting it sink in a little deeper each time. Eventually, I did what I always seem to do when words become too big to hold—I took them to my journal.
I spoke to them with paint and watercolor.
I’ve been searching for ways to bring watercolor more naturally into my mixed-media practice, and this page was such a beautiful surprise. I reached for a favorite stencil, added watercolor, and watched the layers unfold in ways I hadn’t expected. It felt playful, peaceful, and exactly what my heart needed.
As I worked, layer by layer, I realized this creative time had become one of those beautiful moments hidden inside the heaviness. A small reminder that healing doesn’t always arrive in the way we think. Sometimes it comes from the simple act of showing up.
I walked away from my table feeling just a little lighter than when I started.
If I could rewrite Chris’s quote, I think it would sound something like this:
“Even when life feels heavy, pick up a paintbrush, splash some paint around, and you’ll discover moments that carry beauty.”
I hope you enjoy the process, find your own moments of beauty, and always know that you are loved.
