This piece has so many things that are my favorite and it also took me out of my comfort zone. I struggle a bit with a few things that I share in the video.

This piece also has such rich meaning and I spent a lot of time searching for the papers that I used in this because they tell the story and the meaning, I share about that in the video too.

This word awakening just hung on my heart this week and I couldn’t shake it so I knew that I needed to create with it. To put all my feelings out on the wood.  The definition of awakening is to awake from slumber, to be woken by an alarm. To suddenly be aware of something. It goes so well with my word for the year discover. There’s an awakening happening within me, I’m not sure yet what that will look like but I’m open and ready to see where the journey will take me! I will tell you more in the video. Enjoy!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!

    Dear Shawn,
As I listened to your ‘words’ yesterday I felt that I had to send you these words written by the wonderful Mary Oliver (who passed this last week). You must probably know her writings but if not I urge you to read her works; such an amazing woman.
Mary Oliver: “The most regretful people… are those… who felt their own creative power restive and uprising, and gave to it neither power nor time.”

Shawn, your heart, spirit, soul, your POWER, is so beautiful. Your ‘words’ be they one, two or more, be they spoken or conveyed in your art creations bring me (and so many people) peace, hope and healing when I so most need it. I thank God for you Shawn. Although I have seemed absent…going through hard & painful times…you are always in my heart and my prayers.
Take care dear heart. My love to you on your journey of awakening this year.

P.s. My word the year is ‘hope’ x
