It’s all about texture and layering – “I’m Here” by creative team member Julie Campbell

“I’m Here”

By creative team member Julie Campbell

This tutorial is all about texture and layering. I love to collage and I wanted to enhance my collage work with marks and paint. I wanted to create a background that looked time worn and vintage, a bit like old peeling wallpaper and paint that has been rubbed back but won’t come off!. The girl could be in an old room or outside in nature. She could be in a dream landscape. The girl is simple to put together. Especially if you are not confident with drawing faces or bodies. I wanted her dress to be part of the story too, to have a history. I added the little bird to enhance the story and create a relationship.

Inky Mandala Painting

Lately I have become fascinated with fluid paint and acrylic ink.  There’s a lot of spontaneity in working with fluid mediums, and the results are often unpredictable.  It becomes a challenge of creative problem solving in making a painting work, but both the process and the results are worth it!  In this painting, we take a bold and chaotic background and tame it with soothing white mandala stencils.  The results are stunning.

Wintery, snowy, mixed media piece with creative team member Mary Szymanski

This project is an homage to winter. Swirly, glittery and snowy!  I love using metallic embossing powder and it worked perfectly with the Snowflake stamps. The stencils lent themselves well to creating this wintery scene.
