Titles we wear

titles-we-wear  The Titles we wear everyday sometimes can be overwhelming… the reason I am thinking about this is because I have been commissioned to do a piece for a memorial… and as I was learning about this individual, I was told about all the things that he was and the titles he held.  I was moved at all this individual had done.  He defended our country and worked to help other veterans to overcome what they had encountered in the terrible day to day activities of war.  I am a huge supporter of our veterans and feel a quiet pain for all that they have seen for the sake of my (our) freedom.   Then I of course looked at my own life and thought about what I contribute… not such a long list.:( I felt lacking, weak.. I felt a lot of emotion…  Then I crawled my way back to my core belief that even if I, or this man that I’m doing the piece for, or you, don’t have a long list of accomplishments behind our names or a list of degrees and titles, we are still amazing and worthy of love.  We all wear alot of different titles some are easy, some are hard, some we need to get rid of, some we need to invest more time in, but none of those things make one more worthy than the other.  Love all the hats that you wear…improve on the areas that need work… give back and help others….. but know that you and I are amazing just because we get up every morning, and prepare ourselves to continue on the journey of life!   Have a great weekend!  Shawn Petite

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 30 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul.
