soar-for-web

I was sitting on the patio the other day enjoying a rare moment of 84 degrees. That is a cold spell in Arizona. Considering it was 110 a couple of days before. Anyway, as I was loving the overcast and possibility of rain, a bee flew by and I did the usual dance and scramble of getting away from the threat from this little insect.  As it was buzzing around a wind came through and knock the bee into a plastic container that was on the table.  The container is like a clear tupperware bowl with no lid. So the bee in an attempt to get out kept running into the sides of the bowl. Over and over it scrabbled up the sides of the bowl. slid back down and climbed back up again.  As I watched this all happen, in my head… I was saying, just fly bee…. fly, there is no lid…. FLY! Now I’m no longer worried about the harm from the bee, I worried about how to set him free from his imaginary prison.  Exhausted the bee just sat in the bottom of the bowl. I was so perplexed by why the bee just didn’t fly away…. I finally turned the bowl on its side… the bee crawled out and flew away.

Your’e probably wondering what this little story has to do with anything… but I drew a strange analogy from this little creature on my table.

I smirked to myself… and said to myself… well isn’t that life… or my life, I should say. Too often I continue to bump up against the same walls…. over and over, only to end up exhausted and frustrated. Never realizing that I have wings… that I have what it takes to fly… Fly out of the box, the situation, the rut. That I have wings to learn new things, and grow. That I can soar to new horizons. That I can fly to a peaceful place. That I already have what it takes to make beautiful things happen.

I want to remind you today, to remember you can fly! Your wings and flying skills might be a little rusty, but you already have what it take to go where you want to go. You might be exhausted from the struggle. From bumping into the walls around you. Let me be a wind in your wings to help you fly. There is nothing holding you down.  Take a rest and deep breath, stretch out your wings and FLY! You can do it!

You are so so loved!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
