There are so many layers on this page. It took me a while to see where it was going to go. I started with black gesso and heavy gloss through my butterfly stencil. I wanted the papers to show through the butterflies and I love the look. I used a variety of thicknesses of acrylic paints, palette knives and I even threw in some crackle paint.

I love how the pages represent the place that I’m at and needing rest. Along with all the business. So many things are significant in this spread. Enjoy the video!

Supplies Used:

Handmade journal, Scraps from the stash, Deco art media – gesso, matte medium, crackle paint, Heavy gloss gel, fluid acrylic (titanium white, burnt umber, quin gold, quin magenta) Deco art premium paint (titanium white, cobalt teal, dark grey, black) Palette knife, charcoal pencil

Stencils used: Let if fly 2, silhouette flower 1, skinny font

Be inspired, create and know that you are loved!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
