I love time spent in my journal and I LOVE layers! this journal page came together quickly and with passion. I love how using an inktense pencil in combination with gesso and charcoal give a soft shading to this lovely lady. I also love all the layers of paper and stencil work peeking through and around her.

She was inspired by a book that I’m reading called Girl wash your face by Rachel Hollis

If you get a chance you should read it, it is a good one! She writes about the lies we tell ourselves and in the most recent chapter I was reading it was titled The lie: I need to play small. Rachel writes, “There are hundreds of ways to lose yourself, but the easiest of them all is refusing to acknowledge who you truly are and that the real you is not an accident”

Yes, you! have been created for a purpose, just as you are. And your fabulous self should not play small but be bold and wonderfully comfortable in your own skin. I share the rest of the story in the video. Enjoy!

Supplies used: Canson 9×12 mixed media journal, Deco art media matte medium and gesso, Deco art premium acrylic paints, vintage papers from collage packs, inktense pencil, general charcoal pencil, signo ball pen in black

Stencils used: pattern 4, pattern 6, Mediterranean 1, doodle circles, faces looking over, vintage crosses,

Have a great week… be inspired, create and know that you are loved!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!

Love this piece Shawn! Just like Esther we were born for such a time as this! Amazing that we were not put on earth 100 yrs ago. These gifts and talents were a gift to us to pass them along to the world, to help those looking for purpose themselves. What I took away from what you skated is that Good doesn’t males mistakes, pretty awesome! Thank you and enjoy the Holidays!
