When I was describing this in the video I used the word happy way too much! But, come on this is just yummy and yes it makes me HAPPY!
When planning this piece I knew I wanted to use gold leaf, but didn’t have any, sooo I decided to make my own ‘Faux” gold leaf. I show you what I used and the experiments with products in real time.
Then I loaded it with crackle paste, crackle paint and texture sand and painted layer after layer of my favorite colors!
I also share how we are free to choose… choose how we respond in life, we get to choose how we show up in the world. Inspired by a quote by Viktor Frankl
“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.
Freedom….. Yes!

Both the message of this week’s video (Faux gold leaf, crackle paste and texture sand Sunday inspiration) and your new workshop are just what I needed today. I have a “button pusher” in my life and need to take the space in time to change my response. Also, I too have spent this week struggling to find a focal point in some of my work. Thank you for inspiring me to greater things!
Patti,
So glad I can inspire you. And I love it when a message falls on the right ears. Allow yourself some grace and space…. so that you can have freedom!
Thanks for watching and sharing the journey with me!
I noticed that you use a clipboard for a paint palette. What type of paper are using with the clipboard? Is it parchment paper? Also, I love your work, what type of class do you have for beginners with mixed media?
Hi Kandace,
I use parchment paper on my clipboard, it’s from the dollar store and works great and then I can use it as collage paper.
I have “just begin workshop” for beginners.https://shawn-petite-inc-workshops.thinkific.com/courses/just-begin-a-beginners-guide-to-the-basics-of-mixed-media
It’s an older one but super reasonable in price. I will be coming out with a new beginner series in a few months if you want to wait for that.
Thanks for being here!
Gorgeous creation I love all the texture and gold!
Thanks so much and thanks for being here!
As you created yr abstract with the crackle and gold leaf (faux) you mention the gold leaf helped form the image of a woman. I also see the image to the left of her – a larger image, a face with her closed eyes and nose and a path of her tear running down her face, bit the white space let’s us imagine whether she is smiling, healing or…. do you see the larger image of her, incomplete, yet through the words of the gold leaf woman …. some one finding herself
I love that…. I have had so many comments about what everyone is seeing. I love that each person sees something different! Thanks for watching and sharing the journey with me.
This video is amazing ! You answered many of my crackle questions ! LOL Your message at the end really hit home for me and is something we all need to remember . Thank you again Shawn !
Thanks Nancy!
