Creating faces can be quite intimidating but thankfully Shawn Petite has several faces stencils to give you the perfect guide. This page has been in the back of my mind for some time. There is something magical about a crown of florals that just pulls at me. Plus right now I am really enjoying creating faces in my art journals. I wanted to share how to do that in an easy way if you aren’t quite confident you’re your own drawings. That’s something that I love so much about using stencils in my artwork. You can create anything you desire. Starting with collaging some vintage ledger paper to the background first, then going in with the Face 1 Looking Down stencil to create an outline for the focal image. I blocked off the face with some skin tone paint mixture and created the hair around the page. Next, it was time to add the crown of florals which I did by blocking out the area I wanted through the stencil with gesso and a makeup sponge. I like to use a heat tool to dry my layers so I can keep working. I went on to add color to the flowers again through the stencil and then added my own dimension with highlights and shadows with a paintbrush. I am so in love with this technique. How simple and easy this page came together was such a delight. I continued to add my own creative touches with a permanent pen to bring out the features, added a little heart through another stencil, splatters and of course the sentiment that encompasses this page: she was herself again. I love this page because I feel like I am embracing myself and becoming myself more and more this year which is truly empowering. I hope all of you know what it feels like to be yourself and if it has been awhile…to come into that again. Thank you so much for watching my video and joining me in this art-filled journal!
