Plastic wrap, matte paint and a toothpick Sunday inspiration 8-2-20

I got lost in this piece, I played, experimented and just relaxed.

I tried plastic wrap to get a grungy unexpected background layer and a toothpick with my acrylic, and it all was magic.

I also brought out some Deco Art paints that I’d gotten recently because of the fabulous new colors. The matte finish is perfect for the grungy-ness that I was looking for.

I had a totally different project in mind for today’s Sunday inspiration and as I was looking for collage papers, I came across the main sheet with the most beautiful quote and everything changed.

“There are great victories and struggles and noble acts of heroism done every day, in the nooks and corners, and in the little households, and in men’s and women’s hearts: any one of which might reconcile the sternest man to such a world and fill him with belief and hope in it.” Charles Dickens

Just remember your small acts…. whatever they may be…. can bring belief and hope. And we sure need that right now…. at least I do! I share more about it in the video.

Have fun watching!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!

      Hi Jeannie,
This font is one that I purchase with a commercial license so I could use it in my work. It’s called La bohemian. Thanks for being here and have a wonderful day!

I absolutely love the work you did this week! You make it look so easy. If only that were the case! I tried to download the piece with the poem you used as a base, but it came out to be about 3 x 2 inches. I tired to edit it and print it full size, but for some reason, it prints as the tiny size altho the print notes say it’s an 8×10 image. I’ve downloaded a couple of others from the resource(many thanks for those!) with no difficulty. Help please!
