A challenge to use collage and limited color palette 4-28-29

My studio is being overrun with collage papers. I don’t mind most of the time because I LOVE PAPER! But it’s getting a little out of hand.

So I decided to create a challenge for myself to create in my journal each month using collage paper. (most likely more than once a month) And using a limited set color palette. I want to challenge myself to work outside my comfort zone, because that’s where all the good stuff happens.

I plan on making some ugly art, and some good ones too. But the point is to get to the table, take an adventure, and let go of the outcome. And I know that in this playtime, I’ll learn something too. I don’t know what that is yet, but I’m excited to try.

I also thought that you might like to join me. Soooo…. Every third Sunday of the month I’ll be doing my collage paper clear out and experimenting with you for the Sunday Inspiration video.

In today’s video, I share with you the 8 color palettes that I’ve chosen to do for these Sunday videos. (including today’s) and the guidelines I’ll follow. For instance, today was the color palette that you see. Collage papers in vertical stripes. And one stencil.

I’ll have the color palettes and the guidelines in the free Subscriber library to download if you’d like to join me. I’ll also post the Sunday video there as well so that you can have them to refer to as they come out and as you create.

My hope is to use up the papers, but most importantly, just be free to create without any expectations. This is playtime! I’d love you to join me if you think this would help you find a simple no thought time to just create! The subscriber library also has a private community to share your work too! So that we can all see what everyone is making.

OK…Off to create!… Oh and always know that you are loved!

Hello there! I’m Shawn Petite

I’ve been teaching and creating for well over 25 years. About 15 years ago I found my art soul mate in mixed media, and it changed my life! I love the story that can be told by combining paint, texture, ink, paper and—really anything that you can imagine.

But what I’m truly passionate about is being your guide, walking with you step by step and helping you become your own hero in your creative journey.

Along my path, I’ve learned that the creating art also creates a healing space. Life can be messy and complicated and painful, but something about a paint brush can help heal your soul. I believe—no, I know—you are worthy of love, and I want to teach you to know that about yourself. Join me on this journey of art and inspiration!
